Dubai Municipality (DM) offers free pest control for public health pests. For residents, news reports say that means disease-carrying pests (flies, mosquitoes and rodents) and poisonous ones such as scorpions, snakes, bees, wasps, hornets and poisonous spiders. You request it by calling 800900 or through DM's apps or chat. The stated turnaround is four working days, or 24 hours for poisonous pests. Termites, cockroaches and bed bugs are not on the residents' list, and the service does not run in Jebel Ali Free Zone or in areas where developers hire their own contractors.

Is Dubai Municipality pest control really free?

Yes, according to two published explainers. Khaleej Times (November 2024, updated December 2024) describes it as a free Municipality service for residents. A dubizzle property guide (August 2024) also says it is free and that no documents are needed to apply.

DM's own Public Health Pest Control Section page, checked in October 2026, lists pest control in "citizens' homes" and public places such as parks, markets and drains among its services, but it does not state a price. If cost matters to you, confirm when you call 800900.

Which pests does the free service cover?

The clearest breakdown is in the Khaleej Times article from November 2024. It says citizens can get treatment for any public health pest, while residents (expats) are covered for a narrower set. Here is what the sources say, side by side:

Pest Covered for residents? Response time stated Source
Mosquitoes Yes 4 working days Khaleej Times, Nov 2024
Flies Yes 4 working days Khaleej Times, Nov 2024
Rats and mice Yes 4 working days Khaleej Times, Nov 2024
Scorpions Yes (poisonous pest) 24 hours Khaleej Times, Nov 2024
Snakes Yes (poisonous pest) 24 hours Khaleej Times, Nov 2024
Bees, wasps and hornets Yes (poisonous pest) 24 hours Khaleej Times, Nov 2024
Poisonous spiders Yes 24 hours Khaleej Times, Nov 2024
Termites No (property pest) n/a dubizzle, Aug 2024
Cockroaches, bed bugs, ants Not on residents' list n/a Khaleej Times, Nov 2024
Pigeons No, private firms n/a Khaleej Times, Nov 2024

For anything not on the residents' list, Khaleej Times says to hire a company authorised by DM. Our guide on how to check a company is DM-approved walks through the list.

The pests named on DM's own section page are mosquitoes, flies and rodents. That matches the core of the residents' list.

Why are termites not covered?

The dubizzle guide (August 2024) says termites are excluded because they are a threat to property, not to public health. The free service is a public health service, so it focuses on pests that spread disease or can poison you.

If you have termites in a villa, you will need a private company that appears on the separate termite list in DM's approved companies PDF. Termite jobs are usually quoted after an inspection. See our pest control prices guide for published estimates.

How do you request Dubai Municipality pest control?

Sources list these channels:

  • Call 800900, DM's call centre (Khaleej Times; dubizzle).
  • WhatsApp 800900 (dubizzle, August 2024; Gulf Today, October 2026, for reporting rainwater pooling).
  • The Dubai Municipality app (Khaleej Times; dubizzle).
  • The chatbot on DM's website, called Faras by dubizzle (Khaleej Times; dubizzle).
  • The Dubai Now app (see the note below).

There is one conflict here. Khaleej Times (November 2024) lists Dubai Now as a channel for citizens only. dubizzle (August 2024) lists it for everyone, and The National (April 2026) says Dubai residents can apply through Dubai Now for DM's Integrated Public Health Pest Control Service. If Dubai Now does not let you submit, use 800900 instead.

dubizzle says DM calls you back to arrange an appointment. Have your address, the pest, and a few photos ready.

How long does Dubai Municipality take to respond?

Two sources, more than a year apart, give the same figures:

  • Four working days for standard public health pest requests.
  • 24 hours for poisonous or hazardous pests such as snakes and scorpions.

Khaleej Times reported these in November 2024. The National repeated them in April 2026, citing the Dubai Now app. dubizzle adds that requests from high-importance (VIP) properties are also treated as emergencies.

If the problem continues, both Khaleej Times and dubizzle say you can file a second request 15 days after the first.

If someone has been stung or bitten by a scorpion or snake, do not wait for pest control. Call 999 or seek urgent medical help.

Where is the free service not available?

Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA). Both Khaleej Times and dubizzle say DM does not provide the service in JAFZA. Pest control there is handled by Emdad, a specialised pest control company, and Khaleej Times says the zone falls under the Ports and Free Zone authorities.

Developer-managed communities. Khaleej Times says DM does not serve "investment and real estate development areas". In those areas, the relevant authority must hire private pest control firms approved in Dubai. In practice, if you live in a community run by a master developer, start with your community or building management. They may already have a contractor, and the cost may sit in your service charges. Who pays inside your own home is a separate question: see who pays for pest control in Dubai.

Commercial premises. dubizzle says the service is aimed at homes and that commercial properties should use DM-licensed companies. Restaurants and food shops have their own rules. See our food business pest control guide.

Does it cover indoors, or only outdoor areas?

Here the sources disagree, and the disagreement matters.

A lifestyle blog post from September 2026 says the municipal service only covers outdoor public areas, such as roads, communal gardens, storm drains and skips. It says indoor flat infestations are excluded and that requests are resolved in 24 to 48 hours. The same post also lists termite treatment around external structures as a municipal service.

That does not match what the news sources and DM say:

  • Khaleej Times (November 2024) frames the service as treatment for pests in your home, with a list of covered pests for residents.
  • dubizzle (August 2024) says the service is aimed mainly at homes and that termites are excluded.
  • DM's section page lists "citizens' homes" alongside public places.
  • The 24 to 48 hour figure does not match the four working days (24 hours for poisonous pests) reported by Khaleej Times in 2024 and The National in 2026.

The blog cites no DM source for its claims. We give more weight to the news articles, which name the pests, channels and time frames consistently. Even so, none of our sources is a DM page that sets out indoor and outdoor scope in full. The safest step is to describe your problem on 800900 and ask whether a team can come inside.

Mosquitoes are the case where outdoor work matters most. After heavy rain, DM runs its own mosquito control in public areas, and Gulf Today (October 2026) reported that residents can report rainwater pooling on 800900 or WhatsApp. See mosquitoes after rain in Dubai.

What to do while you wait

  • Remove standing water around your home: plant saucers, buckets, AC drip trays. The National (April 2026) reports DM advice to clear stagnant water outside the home and fix leaks.
  • Keep food sealed and rubbish bagged to cut down flies and rodents.
  • Keep children and pets away from any snake, scorpion or nest. Do not try to catch or kill it.
  • Do not use fumigation tablets or "bombs". They are illegal in homes. See aluminium phosphide bombs.

What to check before you act

  • Is the pest on the residents' list (mosquitoes, flies, rodents, poisonous pests)? If not, you need a DM-approved company.
  • Are you in JAFZA or a developer-managed area? If so, contact your zone or community management first.
  • Request via 800900 (phone or WhatsApp), the DM app or the website chat. Try Dubai Now if it accepts your request.
  • Note the date. If the problem continues, you can request again after 15 days.
  • For termites, use a company on DM's separate termite list.
  • Snake or scorpion sting or bite: call 999 or seek urgent medical help.

Does Dubai Municipality treat cockroaches and bed bugs for free?

No. Cockroaches, bed bugs and ants are not on the residents' list reported by Khaleej Times. For those, hire a company authorised by Dubai Municipality.
